A capacity field of 16 will line up for this weekend’s Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick, ending what is sure to be a memorable day of racing in week 1 of the inaugural The Championships.
Having returned to racing in prime condition this preparation, Lady Cumquat is currently outright favourite in betting markets for success in the 2014 Adrian Knox Stakes at generous $5.50 odds, ahead of Amanpour ($6), Arabian Gold ($7) and clear market mover Role Model, who has been cut from an opening quote of more than $10 to current feature at $8.50 odds.
Will Lady Cumquat win her first race on Australian soil, or will one of her classy opponents claim the 2014 Adrian Knox Stakes crown?
Lady Cumquat ($5.50)
Securing an impressive record of two wins and four places from only seven race starts to date, talented three-year-old Lady Cumquat has been without doubt one of the most consistent performers on the tracks of New Zealand this time in, finishing second in the Eye Institute Maiden (1400m) first-up and third in the Lindsay Mile (1600m) on March 1st before strolling home to win the Group 3 Manawatu Classic (2000m) last time out on March 29th. Allocated the ideal barrier 6, Lady Cumquat will be partnered by in-form jockey Nash Rawiller and is offered a perfect opportunity to continue in her sensational run of form.
Role Model ($8.50)
Finishing a strong second in the Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1600m) in her last competitive start, Role Model has claimed a total of two wins and four places from only eight race starts and offers punters sensational value for money at $8.50 odds, or $2.90 for a place. In-form jockey Tim Clark has been confirmed to retain the die on the Bel Danoro filly in the 2014 Adrian Knox Stakes, and will leave from the ideal barrier 2. Trainer Gai Waterhouse has underlined a hopeful appearance in the major Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) as the major target for Role Model following this weekend’s Group 3, and is confident of carry winning form into that event.
Yet to finish outside the places in five competitive starts to far, talented prospect Postnthyme has earned her place in this weekend’s Adrian Knox Stakes; completing the hard yards in minor events to feature this weekend in what will be her maiden tilt at a Group level event, and first on Australian shores. Carrying winning form into the Adrian Knox Stakes after strolling away to win the Cosmopolitan Club Fillies Maiden (1600m) last time out, the exciting Pins filly will have to overcome the wide barrier 18, but will be partnered by leading jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
